There has been something I’ve been wanting to try for a long time and I just didn’t know where to start or how to get my vision onto the screen (into the camera?). Ai has been all the rage lately but I felt like making pictures solely out of Ai was cheating in more ways than one. I thought that it took away from the best part of creating art yourself. Thats not to say I don’t use Ai as a tool in my arsenal to help me build my art, I think it has its time and place. I wanted to figure out how to take my art from 90% Ai 10% original art to 90% original and 10% Ai. I think I found that balance.
I love doing wedding photography. There’s a timeless allure to capturing moments during the happiest day of most peoples lives. While traditional portraits hold their charm, (and something I still of course do) I wanted to build something unique for you. Something that can be put on your wall and everyone just has to stare at it for a minute. I wanted to add an extra layer of artistic elegance to the memories couples cherish forever: painterly portraits.
Painterly portraits is something we offer as a unique twist to wedding photography. These portraits resemble hand-painted masterpieces, exuding a soft, dreamlike quality that elevates the entire wedding album. I wanted something that looks like a renaissance masterpiece. I wanted to give you something that encapsulate the romance, emotion, and intimacy of the moment in a way that goes beyond mere documentation. Something dreamlike, unique and beautiful.

The process begins with capturing the perfect moment. The loving gaze, the tender embrace, the stolen glances with a beautiful vast open landscape in the background. These raw images serve as the canvas where we start our editing.
Through a delicate interplay of light, color, and texture, the photographer transforms these moments into works of art. This might take seconds or minutes. We might need to find multiple locations. The lighting and camera angles all play into a roll to what makes a great start to making a painterly portrait.
If the background is too busy or if there is too much background blur then you might now know exactly what setting your in. If the light his your face in the wrong spot it won’t set the mood just perfectly. All these things are what we take into account for creating these portraits.
You can see the differences between a 90/10 Original/Ai in the pictures above. I think the opportunities for portraits that are mostly Ai could be more “surreal” but I think loses the memory of your special day. I would rather bring in a more realistic location using most of the picture as a base and then bringing subtle additions that help add to your core memory.
The result? A collection of portraits that not only capture the essence of the day but also transcend it, immortalizing the love story in a way that resonates for generations to come.

Creating an oil painting from scratch is completely analog and beautiful and I love artists that can do that. I am not quite at that painting skill so I do what I am good at.
